The best way to experience a new city is through its cuisine. Serbia is a true paradise for carnivorous tooth.

1. Cevapi

Cevapi is grill Serbian sausage. Cevapi are grilled Serbian sausages made of a mixture or ground beef and pork, seasoned with lots of garlic and paprika. Originally this kind of sausages was made with ground lamb, but nowadays beef and pork are more common.

Serbian apricot torte, also known as torta praska, is made with a layered yeast dough and apricots.

Leskovačka mućkalica

Leskovačka mućkalica is grilled and boiled meat with vegetables. The meat (pork neck) cut into cubes, put spices, wrapped in bacon and baked on the grill. After that, add it together with cooked mix vegetable (onion, paprika, tomato).

Tufahija is a popular old dessert recipe in Serbia. It’s baked apple with walnut and sugar filling. This dessert is a real happy ending after all the savory food. We recommend a strong black coffee in company with tufahija.

9. Karadjordjeva šnicla

Karadjordjeva Snicla is rolled veal or pork stuffed with kajmak (a creamy dairy product) and bacon, then breaded and fried. Usually served with roasted potatoes and tartar sauce. This dish is slowly gaining popularity around the Balkan and Mediterranean countries. Karadjordjeva Snicla is named after the Serbian Prince Karadjordje.

10. Prebranac

Prebranac

Prebranac (Serbian baked beans) is one of the classic comfort foods of Balkans – a casserole of caramelized onions and white beans, in a sauce flavored with bay leaves and sweet Hungarian paprika. Originally made by farmers during long winters – it’s nutritious, wholesome and by far one of the cheapest dishes ever made. Prebranac is typically served at room temperature with warm crusty bread.
