We decided to travel to Tbilisi, live like a local for a month as what we usually do and explore the city as much as we could. When it comes to Tbilisi it’s safe to say the secret is out. The capital of Georgia has been charming worldwide travellers with its alternative arts scene, world-class clubs and unforgettable cuisine for a while now – and it’s undoubtedly becoming one of the trendiest cities in Europe.

1. Is Tbilisi safe?

If you intend to travel to Georgia, relax about safety issues. You will feel complete safety while traveling around the country. Here they say that the guest is the gift from God, so Georgians will do their best to treat you with great hospitality. Friendly Georgians are always willing to assist you. You won’t need to take extra care of your pocket and handbag.
No one will disturb you here, though, just in case, Georgian policemen are at service 24/7. According to recent research, police is one of the most trusted institutions in the country and about 74% of the population trust it. Georgia is ahead of European countries by this indicator. So be calm, relax and enjoy all the best things that country has to offer.

3. Weather in Georgia

In Georgia they have diverse climate zones, that is why it is all year round destination. Subtropical and mild climate zones replace each other. Summer is sunny, temperature fluctuates from 29 ° C to 33 ° C., and in winter – from -2 ° C to 4 ° C.

4. Is it safe to drink water in Tbilisi?

According to Georgian Water and Power (GWP), tap water is absolutely safe in Tbilisi. It means that drinking water quality complies in full with the WHO recommendations and requirements of National regulations.

The currency that is used in Georgia is called Lari. About$1 = 2.5 GEL and 1€ = 3 GEL

The best sim card that i can find is Beeline. Here is the offer they have :

  • 1GB data = 4 GEL = $1.5
  • 4GB data = 9 GEL = $3.5
  • 8GB data = 16 GEL = $6
  • 30GB data = 25 GEL = $9.5

The above data packages are valid for 30 days, calls and sms are not included. It is not a problem as I usually use Whatsapp to do calls and messages.

7. How to get from the airport to the city

There are 3 ways to get to Tbilisi City Center: bus, train, taxi.

The bus runs 24/7 and cost only 0.5 GEL = $0.20. It takes around 30-40 minutes to reach the center. Look for bus route no 37. Yandex taxi app costs about 25-60 GEL.

8. Download Taxi apps

The way to get around in Tbilisi is Yandex. This is the local Uber, so when you are planning a trip to Tbilisi download this app. A trip around the city will never cost you more than 5 GEL ($2).
