9 Things to do in Tbilisi

Tbilisi is the capital of the country of Georgia. Its cobblestoned old town reflects a long, complicated history, with periods under Persian and Russian rule. Its diverse architecture encompasses Eastern Orthodox churches, ornate art nouveau buildings and Soviet Modernist structures. Looming over it all are Narikala, a reconstructed 4th-century fortress, and Kartlis Deda, an iconic statue of the “Mother of Georgia.”

1. Rustaveli avenue and Freedom square

Rustaveli Avenue begins at Freedom Square and extends about 1.5 kilometers. This is the center of the city, where many of the governmental, cultural and business facilities are located. Strolling down Rustaveli you can observe daily life in the city, explore shops from both international and local brands, and get something to eat.

One of the important place to visit in Tbilisi. Every hour the door at the top opens and an angel will come out to ring the bell. At 7 pm it’s wonderful to see middle door in the clock tower opens and a small drama on circle of life will be portrayed.

3. The Bridge Of Peace

One of the most famous tourist site in the capital city of Georgia and also might be one of the most beautiful one. The lights at the bridge at night are a marvelous sight to look at.

The Park is on top of the hill and can be accessed by a funicular which is the most exciting part of the trip and beautiful view of Tbilisi City can be seen from it. Park can also be accessed by road. There are ride, other recreational options and small restaurants in the park. Panoramic view point near the fortress is definitely breathtaking. Ferris wheel and roller coaster are major rides not to be missed.

 

5. Holy Trinity Cathedral of Tbilisi

Outside this Cathedral is really impressive looking, definitely the most astonishing part of this cathedral and visible from all over Tbilisi. It is free to enter, and it built in 2004 to my surprise. However inside also nice it maybe is not quite far of my expectations. the outside architecture of the cathedral is

6. Narikala Fortress

Wonderful to experience a fortress that you can climb up to the top of the ruins and look at over the town. Some of the upper track is quite hard terrain, so proper shoes are recommended. Well worth the climb to the top of the walls.

7. The Chronicle of Georgia

A little known gargantuan construction standing sentinel by the Tbilisi Sea. Created by Zurab Tsereteli, a Georgian born Soviet-trained sculptor. Building began in 1985 but was never finished. Reached by taxi or Bus 60.

A great way to get to the park and complex at the top, and will certainly save your legs. It is already a steep walk from the Metro station to get to the base station! Spectacular views!

9. Dry Bridge Market

This is such a cool little market with antiques, art, housewares, and just a random assortment of goods that people are trying to sell. It’s a fun experience to walk around and see everything, especially the communist era items. There are plenty of souvenirs to buy as well.
